[00:00:00] Foreign Good evening, I'm Ben and welcome to the show where you and I gather around this campfire to hear some of our fellow campers scariest experiences. Whether you're a new or returning camper, I am happy to have you.
[00:00:18] Tonight we hear a story sent in by Camper Brianna about her experience working at the Pima Community College Desert Vista campus where she encountered one of the many ghosts that reside on campus. As always, before we begin the show, if you'd like to check out our camp's bonus episodes, head over to patreon.com do you want to hear a ghost story? You'll also gain early access to ad free episodes, get a shout out at the end of one, and much more.
[00:00:46] Now, without further ado, do you want to hear a ghost story?
[00:00:52] I hated closing up the cafe. Sure, it wasn't a hard job cleaning the counters, counting the till and locking the doors, but closing always felt different. In fact, this whole place changed after dark. I worked the cafe at Pima Community College. The Desert Vista campus to be specific. It had been one of those shifts where you're counting down the minutes until you can clock out and go home. I'd just finished wiping down the counters and locking up the registers. All I had left to do was do a final walk through and take out the trash.
[00:01:26] It had been a long day and I was tired. Tired enough to let the ghost stories of campus creep into the back of my mind.
[00:01:34] I'd been working here long enough to hear all the stories. The whole campus just had a weird vibe. And you know it wasn't just me who said that. I ask anyone who worked here or went to school here. People would always talk about the shadows in the library, the voices in the halls, and the books flying off the shelves from the bookstore.
[00:01:54] I'd even had my own weird run ins in the kitchen, but I always told myself that it was all in my head. The kitchen always felt creepy. Every time I had to walk in there to check storage, it felt like I was being watched. But the light switch was all the way in the back, so tonight I had no choice. I was used to it by now anyways. Rushing to the switch, trying to pretend nothing was wrong. But that night, as I walked towards the switch, I heard something. I told myself it was the refrigerators, or maybe the wind outside. Anything but what I thought it really was.
[00:02:29] But that's where my bravery ended as I didn't stop to check what happened. I just grabbed the trash bags, turned out the light, and ran out of there.
[00:02:38] I Was finally almost done for the night. One more step and I could be on my way home. I just had to check the rest of the trash bins, take the trash out and, well, probably stop in the bathroom. You know, normally I'd wait until I got home, but I just couldn't hold it that night.
[00:02:56] The bathroom was one of those detached concrete buildings A little too far from the main building for comfort. People always said it was haunted, that they found some artifacts there when they were putting it up.
[00:03:08] But I never really believed it. At least not until that night.
[00:03:14] I had left the trash bags outside after all. The bathroom was on the way to the trash can. I was sitting there minding my business, scrolling on my phone as one does as I used the toilet.
[00:03:26] Oh my God. Relax. There's other people in here. I. I yelled out, but no one said anything.
[00:03:33] Hello? But again, nothing.
[00:03:37] My first thought was that maybe someone else had come in, maybe a co worker. But when I looked down underneath the stall, there was no feet over there.
[00:03:48] I quickly finished up and walked out to face the other stall door. Seeing that it was in fact closed, I reached out and pushed it open. There was no one in there.
[00:03:58] I looked at the main door of the bathroom, and it was also still shut.
[00:04:03] And it was one of those really heavy doors. You know, those doors that took forever to close. So I knew that no one left the stall and ran out.
[00:04:12] At that, I shook my head. I bolted out of there, shaking so hard I could barely grab my keys.
[00:04:20] I barely finished up my closing checklist that night. And I didn't care. I clocked out and drove home as fast as I could, trying to forget everything. The slamming door, the feeling and what I think were whispers. As I said, I've heard all the stories of desert vista, of the Hohokam tribe, artifacts found under the parking lot, of the sound of children in the library, the moving books in the bookstore. But that night, the. The bathroom, the area where the stories I heard weren't so convincing. Well, it was there I became a believer.
[00:04:56] Thank you, Brianna, for allowing me to share your story. It's one of those stories that I think really shines a light on how, well, sort of mundane hauntings can be, putting you in a state of indefinite unease before or if something big ever happens. If you hadn't used the bathroom that night, hell, maybe nothing would have ever happened to you. But I think that's really the beauty of the paranormal, you know, that it's just always there with us, but not always in our face.
[00:05:27] I know you said there are many other stories in your area that you find scary and just know that your stories will always be welcome at our campfire so feel free to send them in.
[00:05:36] With that I will leave you here for the night. If you want early access to ad free episodes a shout out to the end of one, head over to patreon.com do you want to hear a ghost story.
[00:05:47] And as always I am glad to have you all as campers on this journey. So please keep sharing the show with anyone you think might like these stories or someone you're just trying to scare. If you are enjoying the show please leave a review. I love reading them. Until next time.
[00:06:05] I'm going to cut this part out and put it in the comments after the show but as I was reading this my lights went out and I damn near had a fucking heart attack. Jesus Christ.
[00:06:17] All right.
[00:06:19] Just the joys of telling scary stories by yourself in a bedroom. All right.
